INDONESIA CONTINUES MARKET PENETRATION IN THE U.S.
To boost the non-oil and gas exports, Indonesia through the National Agency for Export Development/NAFED will conduct its trade missions in the three the United States cities: Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Washington on May 17-22, 2007. The United States is one of the Indonesia’s main non-oil and gas export destinations. Indonesia needs to increase its exports and try at least to maintain the existing market shares.

For business players, Indonesia’s participation in the activity is they deem crucial to get potential and prospective trade partners in marketing their products in the country’s market. The products which will be offered are among others textile and textile products (TPT), furniture & bedding, sea food, jewelry, foods, handicraft, footwear, coffee & cocoa, spices, ceramics, as well as products of information and technology and machine products.

NAFED has set a target of at least 50 exporting companies will take part in the mission with supports from government officials, associations, chamber of commerce and industry and banking.

Despite extending the market access, the trade missions to the United States also aim to obtain various accurate information on the market and trade rulings in the United States. The trade missions to the United States are also filled with Bilateral Meeting, Business Forum, One-on-One Meeting, Visit by local importers, and Business Gathering: Lunch & Dinner.

In the Business Forum activities, Indonesia’s Trade Attaché and ITPC plan to give explanation on the local market and to match trade partners which are suitable with the products through One-on-one Meeting. In the business forum, representatives from the U.S.-FDA will become keynote speakers to address the U.S. import regulations especially on foods and drugs.

To succeed the business forum, NAFED has forged coordination with the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, American-Indonesian Chamber of Commerce, Red Chamber and Indonesian importers in Los Angeles. (Wd)
